blog 15 reflection

Throughout my English class I believe that i have learned to become a better writer, my thinking has changed in my writing. This class helped me to open up my mind more and express myself in a different way in writing essays. during my time in this English class I completed  many blog entries which included many discussions that we had in class. These blog entries included our feelings on  topics, our interpretations on  different poetry's, novels and even plays that dealt with drama. completing these blog entries forced me to open my mind more and really think about what exactly i wanted to say. Writing blog entries was a difficult task to be at first because it is hard for me to gather my thoughts and write it down on paper but after writing the second blog i knew what was expected of me. i think that my blog entries  varied with sophistication and length depending on the topic because with certain topics i had a lot of things to say towards it. the topics caught my attention and i had much to say about it. on the other topics i did not have much interest to write about it or even discuss it. my blog entries all had a main point to them i stayed on topic and expressed myself in a different way.I used many examples from the different readings that was talked about in class and interpreted it in my own words. most of my blogs are clear and easy to read. when my blogs are written my thoughts are clear, i do not repeat my thoughts i express myself to by best ability, and i also make sure i stay on topic. As a writer my writing stimulates class dialogue when anything is discussed i put it my dialogue and try to extend the discussion and put my own thoughts and experiences in my blogs. although some of my thoughts are mushed together but i make an effort to make it smaller and make my thoughts better. My writing style exemplifies my personality and the type of language that i use in my writing. my vocabulary is not very excessive but my thoughts are very clear and easy to understand. when i organize mt thoughts i organize it in the right way i come on strong when i express myself.
My online experience this semester was much expect. i expected to use the computer often to do my essays. writing online was different from my other writing experiences because with this class it required more technology, thinking, and more discussions as appose to my other English class we did not use much technology and everything was written down. writing my blog entries  helped me to improve my writing skills because now my writing is more organized and my thoughts come together and they make sense. these blog entries helped me to become abetter writer and a better thinker it helped me to open my mind up to more things and correspond ideas with someone else. i did read my other classmates work and some of their ideas are close to mine. most of my classmates blogs are very deep in thought i can tell that they took their time to write it. i never got the impression that anyone read my blogs because my classmates did not want to read anyone else blogs and a lot of people discussed a lot of things on their blogs.
I have learned a lot in the class but the one thing that i would take away from this class is that i have become a better writer since taking this class i am not perfect yet but i am improving my writing skills. the most memorable assignment was having different discussions on slavery i took interest in that because we talked about slavery constantly and me realize the things that African Americans went through and how they suffered. this was a very serious conversation that took me back to a book that i read when i was little. this novel  talked about slavery and  how the whites treated the blacks which dealt with whippings, hanging and separation from families. I was very upset about this and i never picked up the book again. From this discussion about slavery in class made me realize how times have changed and how lucky i am to live a free life and get an education and become a successful black women.
If a student plans on taking English 102 class next semester i would recommend you to come to class with an open mind, be ready to write essays be ready to have an pen discussion about different topics and do not be shy about anything because your classmates might think the the same way as you do. this class is not hard you just have to stay focused and ask questions if you need some type of clarification on a topic and be aware of how you write as well. good luck

Blog 14 reflection

I have only done a couple blogs on much ado about nothing. The blog  that i am most proud of is blog number 12. It was the most interesting this was a conversation between Benedick and Beatrice about killing Claudio for the simple fact that Claudio betrayed hero and slandered her in front of her family. this scene was the most dramatic of the book because it was the climax of the play and it caught my attention. I like the fact that Beatrice stood up for herself even though women were not allowed to have a voice in any type of situation. Beatrice seems to be a feisty tempered character. what i learned about  writing about drama is that you really have to pay attention to the novel or movie because it does have some key things in there that is important to know, I think discussing the book helped me to understand it more in class. The whole marriage situations during the 1500s with husbands and wives did not really surprise me much. Husbands were always the leader of the households, women had no say in what the husband did or how the women was treated. times have changed and women can speak up and have a voice in every situation that comes up. This Shakespeare play was very interesting however I prefer reading a novels instead.

blog 12 Beatrice

Beatrice makes a wish that she wants to be a man so that she could go in a battle with Claudio. her wish is a sign that men around her are acting dishonorably because when you say you love someone you will do anything for them, Beatrice asked Benedick kill Claudio and he said no. He is dishonoring his word because he told Beatrice that he loved her and would do anything for her. Beatrice feels that men are dishonorable human beings that all they do is slander women and disrespect them, she believes that men are not real, that they are all just liars. i think that she is correct in some form because Claudio was manipulated to think that his wife was not a virgin however, i think that Beatrice feels this way because Benedick told her that he was not going to kill Claudio. i feel that Beatrice is hurt by what Claudio did to hero how he humiliated her in front of her family and made false accusations against her. in my opinion she would not make a better man even though she is defending her cousin she would be killing the wrong person.

much ado about nothing blog 11

During the early 1600s the Men and Women lived their lives differently. men were considered to be honorable and women were set to live by high standards, women were easily judged sexually. a women who tried to defend herself was a women that was looked down upon and was considered ill tempered. Benedick considers women to be a whore or wife either a prostitute to be bought or wives to be owned when Claudio brought hero up i the conversation Benedick said this when he gave his true opinion on hero. Leonato accuses Beatrice of being too ill tempered which means crust. Beatrice is a women who stands up for herself even though men would look down on her because of that. she stands her ground and she makes it a point that she will not be blamed for what a man does. I do not think she can resist on men controlling her actions because sooner or later she is going to realize that she can sometimes make situations bigger than it is and she will need someone to calm her down and relax the situation however she is a strong women and she will never let any man walk all over her.

blog 10

Throughout the classes we have discussed many different topics and had may discussions about slavery and how it effected slaves lives. one blog that i thought was important was blog 8. blog 8 talked about the abuses that slaves had to suffer. the fact that a a white man could control everything that a slaves does, to control their minds keep them ignorant, beat them senseless until they have broken bones, make them work all day and night, slaves not able to learn or have any type of education if they tried to they would be whipped or hanged. slaves were treated badly during this time, they were kept ignorant so that the masters could control their minds, the masters bring fear into their lives so that they would be scared of the punishments, blacks were so used to getting whipped that it was a routine they were scared to leave. They had to obey their masters and have respect for their masters, they had to work all day and night, they were ripped from their families and they never saw them again. their whole life was taken from them. what makes me proud of this is the fact that i am thankful of the fact that i can get an education and do whatever i want in my life and not have someone give me orders or control my life because i have my own mind that i can follow.

We have discussed done many different activities, discussed many situations that have happened in our lives, we have discussed the situations the lives of slaves and the book Kindred. One of the things i have learned about the activities that we have done so far was the slave system this was a system that slaves had to follow this was the life they had to live. going through punishments being separated from their families, having to work all day, having their minds controlled by their masters to keep them in order. throughout this discussion i have learned more information about the slavery system and the slaves being treated badly and unfair. they were treated as if they were not humans like they did not belong to the world. no on deserves to be treated like that because of their skin color or who they look like. I am thankful for the fact that i can be my own person and not have to follow a system and being able to have a voice and express how i feel and know that i am not going to be punished for it.

From the house evaluations i have learned different perspectives of what my house mated think about our discussions on slavery and the book Kindred. They all have different opinions on what they believe or think and when they write everything makes sense and it comes together. I get to see a different view on certain topics and have a better understanding of it and where it is coming from and have that information instilled into my mind. when i read the blogs from my classmates most of us share the same opinions on those many topics and we give each other advice on how to make it better and express ourselves more.

blog 9

The three characters that suffered the most were Alice,Dana,  and Sarah. Alice suffered various situations like her seeing her husband being beat up by Tom Weylin, Alice being raped by Rufus, she is Rufus sex slave and she tries to escape that but she cant. she becomes pregnant by him and has a daughter, she suffered a lot of beatings for helping her husband Issac escape. Alice also deals with vague  memories about Dana and her marriage and who she is. Sarah also dealing with the fact that her two sons were sold by Tom Weylin the fact that she has to do whatever Rufus tells her to do or she might lose her daughter and she is unwilling to do that so she obeys orders that are given. Dana on the other hand was transported to the south to save Rufus Weylin. in the Weylin household she has to obey orders and that is hard for her to do because she is an educated black women and his wife Margret do not like that. she tries to educated Nigel and Rufus but she experiences a whipping because she gets caught. she gets a lot of back lash from marrying  a white man from her family and the household. The slaves and  the Rufus and tom and Margret Weylin have their own views on her marriage. The Weylin do not care about Dana or her marriage, Alice has mixed feelings about Dana's marriage one day she accepts her marriage and the next day she is attacking Dana about it.  Dana:s uncle does not agree with the marriage  he feels that she should be with a black man like him. Her aunt likes the marriage because

Dana will have light skinned children. Sarah disagrees with her marriage she is disgusted by it. Dana's life is all about survival.  she is also having problems with Rufus it seems like every time she helps him he turns around and rips her apart. however Dana does help all the slaves and tries to take care of them as much as she can especially Alice. she took care of Alice when she was beaten up. Dana had to make a big sacrifice to leave everything behind and help Rufus. Dana has to adjust to the slave life coming from an educated family she has to deal with ignorance. I think Dana is most heroic because she had to go through many horrible situations in order to survive she had to deal with abuse, ignorance, she had to adjust to the slave life, she had to deal with peoples judgment about her. she could not read any books because she would be punished and she was treated badly in that household and she had to keep a certain amount of respect in that Weylin house. Dana saved Rufus from drowning and was not even acknowledged at the fact that she saved his life because his parents were racists with ignorant attitudes.she was constantly being looked upon and called things that were not acceptable. Dana could no express herself the way she wanted to their was a limit to that and that was something that she had to go through with and she survived through everything.

When Dana"s cousin said i never thought you will be fool enough to  let a man beat you like that. Dana"s cousin believes that Kevin did that to her but it was tom Weylin who beat her because of the fact that she was giving Nigel a spelling test.kindred addresses many issues with domestic abuse. People stay in a domestic abuse relationship because of the control that the partner has over the person. The person feels that their partner is protecting them and showing them how much they love them.after suffering from abuse you get accustomed to the beatings and you feel like it is a normal relationship. The person is scared to run sway from their partner in fear of the fact that the partner will find them and kill them. So they stay in the relationship thinking that they are safe and that everything will be alright. Dana and and all the other slaves were used to the whips because it was a routine. there was so much fear in their life that they could not escape in fear of the punishments that they will face. once you are in love with the abuser it is hard to get out of the relationship. domestic violence still continues on in relationships and most women cannot seem to get out of them because they are scared of what is going to happen to them.
