The marriage between Kevin and Dana is a very loving marriage. They both love each other deeply but their families differ their marriage. Kevin's sister does not want to meet Dana and that she will not let her go in her house. Dana's aunt accepts the marriage because Dana's children will be light skinned. her uncle is not for the marriage he wants Dana to marry a black man. he is more hurt by the fact that Dana married a white man he was more sad instead of being upset. Sarah cannot believe Dana is married to Kevin. she is a little disgusted Alice agrees with the marriage she is happy for Dana but sometimes her feelings about the marriage was backwards as well she would also attack Dana about her marriage and question her why she married a white man. Tom Weylin and Margret Weylin does not care about Dana"s marriage to Kevin. they do not even care about the fact that Kevin ran away and Dana does not know where he is and they do not even try to help her find him. all Tom Weylin cares about is his plantation and the slaves that are working on it.

1. Tom Weylin is a white man who is a slave master that lives in the south. Tom Weylin is a slave master who owns a plantation who is full of hate ignorance. Tom Weylin runs a tight household where slaves must obey everything he says or asks of them to do. Dana Franklin is an African American women who was transported to the south into slavery. Dana Franklin happens to be a married  women who is educated with a wise attitude. Since Dana entered the Weylin household things have changed dramatically. Dana herself tries to change the household. Tom Weylin feels that Dana is a threat because of the education that she has instilled in her. Dana comes from an educated family, her mother was a school teacher and Dana was taught that education was important.Tom is intimated by Dana he does not want anyone to be better than he is or smarter than he is threatened by Dana. He does not want Dana teaching anyone how to read or spell. Tom Weylin feels that he is powerful and controls what people do and say. For instance Tom Weylin did not want Dana to teach anyone how to read but she started to teach Nigel to spell and she was punished for that. when Dana speaks she speaks with intelligence she does not talk like all the other slaves she speaks like a "white person" and is she has something to say she will never hold back and tom does not like that. talking back is not allowed in the household. Tom is a very ignorant man he is not very educated, he is a rude heartless person that believes abuse is a way to control someones life. Tom believes Dana is a threat to the household because of how she grew up and because of the intelligence she has over him. he is mad at that the fact that he cannot control Dana's mind because he knows that Dana is not an ignorant black women.

Slavery is a person who is a legal property of another who is forced to obey the person. slavery was very common in the united states and it continued on for many years.slavery for African Americans began in the 1600s. blacks were not free during this time they were controlled my their masters. Men, women, and even young children were slaves. they were kidnapped and sold to white owners. these slaves were treated very badly and their punishments were even worse. these slaves worked on plantations and they had to do whatever their master instructed.most of these slaves were punished everyday. the masters punishments were very cruel. slaves were given beatings with wips, chains, and with sticks, sometimes their ears were cut off, they were beaten so badly that  their limbs were broken. they even smoked slaves in Virgina the masters would cause a fire to be made of tobacco and smoke them. the masters even branded the slaves.These type of punishments put a lot of fear into the slaves so that the slaves would cooperate with the master and do everything that he instructed. these punishments were awful and their was no law of protection that could protect the slaves from anything or anyone.

There were a few blog entries that were discussed in our blogs. One blog entry I am proud of is the Variation of the Word Sleep by Margret Atwood, This poem is rather difficult to break down to discuss because it requires a lot of thinking and you have to put your whole mind into the poem to figure out what it really is about. I was proud to write this poem because this poem was very hard to explain however it is a very interesting poem to talk about. it makes you want to think more and open your mind to new poetry. This poem is a sonnet poem which has four stanzas and its about a person who wants to watch his or her lover sleep. the person wants to be with their lover every step of the way and never leave their side.
 Many different activities were taking place to help us out with breaking down poems, knowing the meaning of them, the style. we even did quizzes to test yourself on our knowledge of poetry. From all the activities that have taken place what i learned most was how to get it touch with poetry to actually describe what is going on in the poems and figure out  what the author is trying to say, and the story behind it. This was a very challenging step for me because i never did this with poems before and it actually brings new knowledge to my mind and i am able to break down poems with all the practice that i had.
Working with my group was fun. i am in the Emily Dickison group. I did not get the chance to do I felt a funeral, but I did get the opportunity to see how working with a group is. Usually I like to be independent and figure out things on my own and not have to depend on others to give me the answer but working with a group gives you the opportunity to express your ideas and incorporate it with others. sometimes two minds are better than one. the ideas that are being spoken can be used in a future essay or blog and then your entries could get better each time. I like the fact that i can share my ideas with others and i do not have a problem with anyone using them because I know that I did a good job and I expressed myself very well and my classmates seem to agree too.
From reading my house mates blogs i think that they express themselves very well when they write their blogs. They put a lot of time and effort into their blogs. the way they express themselves in their blogs you can tell that they thought it through and poured all of their ideas out on paper. Not to mention their is a lot of emotion and passion when they write, some of the other blogs could have been better, some of them need more time to think about their ideas, I think that some other blogs need more work, however not every blog is going to be good that is why I think we all need more practice.

variation on the word sleep by Margret Atwood

The poem that I read today was a poem called Variation on the Word Sleep by Margret Atwood. this poem was published in 1981. This poem has many repetitions and different rhyme schemes. in each stanza of the poem there is a repetition. it starts on the first line.there is also a hyperbole's mentioned in this poem. To summarize this poem the speaker states that he or she would like to be in their loved ones dreams. the speaker wants to be near their loved one every minute of the day. the speaker wants to give their loved one the world and much more. for example in line 12 the speaker sates i would like to give you silver the small white flower to protect you. from my thoughts of this line the speaker wold do anything to protect their significant other and will be by their side forever.

The person who speaks the lines of the poem is the person who is deeply in love with their significant other. someone who wants to be there for their lover and protect them in their dreams and in their life. someone who wants to lay in the bed with their lover the whole night and never leave them. This poem is speaking to anyone who is in a relationship who is deeply in love with their significant other. who will always be there lying next to them, and also someone who will protect them with everything that they have.

The speakers attitude toward the subject of the poem is very deep. the speaker goes into a lot of detail with the word sleep and how the speaker wants to be in his or her lovers dreams every second of the day. the speaker is head over heels in love and wants to protect their lover. the speaker wants to be the shining armor to the persons life. the speaker will never let go of the feelings he has for his lover.

There is various figurative languages included in this poem such as hyperbole which was mentioned in throughout the poem.there is also repetition in the poem, personification and metaphors.the most relevant words in the poem is i would like, sleep, center, i would like to watch you, i would like to protect you.The first poem by Kim Addonizio and this poem called the variation of sleep has its similarities and differences.the similarities is that both speakers are in love they both want to protect their lover and be there for them but the difference is that with the variation of sleep the speaker wants to be in their lovers dreams and this in the other one is talking about loving tattoos on their lovers body. being able to kiss it and knowing that its going to be there forever.in the variation of sleep the speaker wants to lay down with the person and actually be there but in the other poem the person is just in love with tattoos. in both of these poems both speakers are infatuated with something or someone.

The theme of this poem is basically loving and caring and protection. being there for your loved one. wanting to be where they are. protecting them with all that you have and keeping them close wherever they go and always wanting to do  more for them each day.the speaker is in love with his or her lover. the speaker wants to be there for their lover and will do whatever it takes to make their lover happy. The speaker wants to lie beside their lover and the speaker wants to be everything to their lover.

First Poem For You by Kim Addonizio

The poem I have chosen to write about in my blog is the poem"First poem for You by Kim Addonizio. I chose this poem because out of all the poems that I have read this is the poem that caught my attention. This poem brings a romantic message that exemplifies love between two people.The speaker likes to be intimate with his or her significant other. The speaker likes to feel the love between them physically and mentally. The speaker wants to fell every touch of the body,feel every ink that is on the body and hear every heartbeat that is taken place. 

The quote that I chose that sends this message begins with "when i pull you to me,taking you until we're spent and quiet on the sheets,i love to kiss the pictures in your skin.They'll last until you're seared to ashes; whatever persists or turns to pain between us,they will still be there. This quote is simply stating the love of tattoos that the speaker feels when he or she sees it on his or her significant others body. the speaker loves to touch the tattoos,kiss the tattoos and be able to hold the persons body close to them. 

The speaker is saying that regardless of whatever they go through or the hurt that they encounter in the relationship,the tattoos will always remain there. The tattoos will last forever.One image that i think would fit this poem are two people that gazing into each others eyes or laying down on each other and expressing the love that they have with each others tattoos.A couple that are kissing or touching their other half tattoos.This poem describes a person that is in love with his or her significant others tattoos. 

This is a women or man with various amounts of tattoos that have true meaning to them, someone with tattoos that exemplifies love. a human being that is happy and is in love with their other half. This poem is a message that states the love of tattoos on a human beings body.A love that is so strong that it is unbreakable. The love of the tattoos that will never disappear. If i could email this poem to anyone i would email  this to my boyfriend because this poem explains the love of tattoos on a persons body and i love the tattoos that my boyfriend has on his.All of his tattoos have meaning to them it is a beautiful thing to admire. i love seeing the tattoos on his skin because i am infatuated with art. i believe tattoos is a good way to express yourself and who you are as a person. tattoos may seem drastic but i love them.
